AMBERGRIS

Ambergris is a bizarre dark-colored substance excreted by sperm whales. The original ambergris odor is very strong with an almost objectionable scent. The perfume ingredient is the same substance which has been floating on the ocean for years and has finally obtained a unique marine odor profile. Because of its name's similarity to Amber, it is often confused with the balsamic oriental note. Ambergris, or Ambra, is a subtle base note, not very strong, with a soft and powdery scent related to seaweed. In modern perfumery there is also a synthetic material with earthy, sea-like and woody hints.
