MARC JACOBS- MOD NOIR
Marc Jacobs
In May 2015, the Karl Lagerfeld House launched a new perfume under the name Private Klub, no , you are not spelling it wrong, it’s with a K, as in Karl.
The unconventional Mr.Lagerfeld has once again made a statement. A shiny golden colored package with the Private Klub logo on it, feels like you just bought the golden ticket to Karl’s luxurious world. The bottle is -of course- in gradient golden shades, with a sturdy golden collar on the bottle’s neck and cut edges, resembling of a well-worked diamond.
As if all this luxury was not enough, the perfume itself is sophisticated in an incomparable way, with Lemon and Bergamot notes being the first thing to emerge, giving a fresh and transparent debut, with a soft, peppery and stimulating twist. The elegant bitterness of Bergamot coupled with the vibrant Lemon tone build up a glowing citrusy aroma.

The heart of the perfume opens up all flowery and full of passion, a palpable Rose note, first perceived as the rose-like pink pepper note, lending a feminine and slightly romantic character, while Violet and Magnolia notes conquer our senses, leaving tropical fruity scented trails , which automatically take you to the most exotic places you could ever imagine. Violet creates a unique thick oriental facade, with tiny woody undertones. Despite all the floral and fruity notes, Private Klub is still quite modern, with a clearly smooth, luxurious and strong aspect.
The base of Private Klub is a surprise, with Cashmeran and Musk beautifully blending in, creating a woody and slightly spicy combo, maintaining the oriental attitude while simultaneously exposing an avant-garde personality, which can last for hours. The nutlike contribution of Almond adds a soft and playful dry-down with a few vanilla beams, making you feel like your body is covered with a velvet shawl.
“Inspired by the energy of a night out on the town” , as the official Karl Lagerfeld House campaign explains, I wore the Private Klub and challenged it through some very hot Mediterranean summer days -and nights- and not for one moment did I feel it was too thick or too strong. Its delightful scent is invigorating and totally matching even with a morning outfit, even though I would personally suggest you save it for a night out to add a lavish hint to your favorite cocktail dress.
