CASTOREUM

Castoreum
Originally derived from the dried oil glands of beaver, Castoreum note is nowadays synthetically recreated in laboratories, dropping ethical issues and allowing us to enjoy it guilt-free. It is a perfume addition, used as a middle or base note, which fused with numerous other notes delivers a warm animalic sensuality. Looking at the chemistry behind the scent, tons of phenols are found, chemical materials with a characteristic clean -almost antiseptic- smell. While cherishing the intense leathery and sharp angle of this, rather pungent, fragrance ingredient, the sweetness and slight herbaceous level should not be overlooked as these are determining factors of the note’s integrity.
