OPOPANAX
Balsamic Note
This funny name belongs to Myrrh’s little sister, no surprise it is mostly known as “sweet Myrrh”, this ingredient is derived from an oleoresin, a resin and essential oil mixture, harvested from the Commiphora tree. This resinous note is used in heavy floral and oriental fragrances, where its caramel-like contribution allows some smooth, powdery and much enjoyable results. When compared to its famous sibling Myrrh, Opopanax stands tall with its radiating sweetness, a shy vegetable trail and hints of animalic undertones, while Myrrh would be better described as sharp and slightly medicinal. Carrying a balsamic mood and a dark exotic spiciness alloyed with honey nuances, it is one vivid perfume note we should applaud and cherish every single time we have a chance to sniff.
