One of the few ingredients in perfumery which is obtained from the root of the plant and not the petals of the flower, which are actually almost not fragrant. The procedure is demanding and lengthy, roots need to be crushed and powdered after they are left to mature and dry for nearly three years, with distillation being the final step. The long procedure, along with its distinctive odor, makes it an important and expensive ingredient in perfumery. Orris or Iris, is a delicate note with high strength, which is introduced with nuances of Violet and subsequently curves gently into a woody and fatty heart. It lends a dry, clean, sweet and slightly thick character to fragrances and creates a pleasant tone. Its longevity is remarkable with the elegant powdery odor lasting for a total of almost 20 hours.
