PERU BALSAM
Balsamic Note
An oleoresin compound, gathered from the incisions carved on the Myroxylon tree's trunk, Peru Balsam is used in perfumery as a base note that imparts a rich and spicy balsamic aspect. Its major constituent, benzyl benzoate creates a weak sweetness, and at the same time the presence of vanillin lends -no surprise- a vanilla-like powdery spirit. Farnesol is one minor constituent, however its delicate oily and slightly flowery behavior is a great booster for sweet floral accords. The dry down of the note is very similar to cinnamon and clove, shaping a unique woody smokiness with an amazing soft touch.
