ESCADA - AGUA DEL SOL EAU DE TOILETTE
A splash of summer in a bottle
Hello summer! Escada's Agua del Sol is a splash of summer in a bottle! The old fashioned curvy bottle, elegantly decorated with an illustration of a girl in her bikini wearing an enormous hat is so 60’s, my heart nearly melted. The colors on the packaging are so appealing and happy, it even reminds me of some vintage perfume ads.
Launched just before the first heatwave of 2016, the new limited edition eau de toilette by Escada is definitely a must try.
NOTES
I have to admit the name Agua del Sol, enclosing both water and sun had me waiting for something very fresh, in a "salt&beach" way. I was pleasantly surprised when a set of fruit notes surfaced with sweet pear ice cream and a striking sour raspberry sorbet, which I must stress was not extremely crisp. This fruity debut was not as exotic as I first imagined, it appears to be a summery scent, with a reserved sweetness and soft honey nuances coming from the citrusy mandarin.
The only floral ingredient found in the heart of Agua del Sol is rose, which is almost silent, and would be completely covered by the fruits if it weren't for the rose hints coming from pink pepper. The heart is mainly a juicy velvet apricot scent, which once again lowers the freshness and creates a cozy smooth, syrupy and warm feeling.
The perfume's base does not seem to be very strong or any different than the previous layers. At first, the combination of musk, tonka bean and sandalwood sounded a bit too daring for such a fruity scent, but after spending days spraying Agua del Sol on my wrist and after numerous sniffs I can simply state that this final accord is just a technicality. All three of these base notes help boost the perfume's longevity, allowing it to smoothly evaporate with a few final undertones of vanilla.
Escada's Agua del Sol eau de toilette is definitely a summer scent "capturing the spirit of the season", fresh but not too powerful. It is actually almost like a chilled berry cocktail, refreshing and joyful thanks to the natural effect delivered by fruits. I would expect something more exotic, but I am thankful this did not turn into an utterly candy-like sweetness, maintaining the freshness factor.
