Sandalwood is a well-known scent, detectable by anyone who has ever used incense sticks and enjoyed their sweet woody aroma. Eastern civilizations have used it for centuries in ritual ceremonies due to its calming and relaxing properties. In perfumery, it is also extensively used, mostly as a weak base note which contributes to a sturdy fragrance foundation and accentuates neighboring notes. The remarkable feature of Sandalwood is its firm longevity coupled with the uninterrupted soft and woody quality. The chemical compounds α- and β- santalol compose a rarely rich, woody and slightly balsamic matrix, subtle enough to ground oriental fragrances, without confining all of Sandalwood’s virtues.
