L'EAU ELECTRIC WAVE
Electric Wave eau de toilette
Launched in 2015, Marc Jacobs Mod Noir eau de parfum is, according to the official website, “ a juxtaposition of classic and contemporary”.
Mod Noir’s debut is citrusy, with notes of yuzu and clementine (aka mandarin) adding a soft bitterness. The very first impression is that we are dealing with a Fougère type perfume, because of the bright green notes on the top layer, but the floral mix of the middle layer is definitely stealing the show, rewarding us with a uniquely crafted floral creation.
During the first few minutes the perfume is slightly strong and a bit cloudy, thanks to all the lemony tones taking us to more classical -or even vintage- scents. At this point, and as the mid notes progress, we witness the “juxtaposition”, the modern character of the perfume, as four exquisite flower notes are admirably combined.
“Floating” and “airy”, these two words, mentioned also on the official Mod Noir fragrance description, describing the lovely Waterlily (aka White Lotus) and the fragile Magnolia are the key to the perfume’s core. A thin and transparent core which is metamorphosed every time you sniff it. It is like all the flowers compete for the leading role, but still all their characteristics stand out strongly.
The main body of Mod Noir has a hidden thin lemony freshness and softness coming from gardenia petals. Yes, it is a flowery juice, but the mixture of all these lovely floral notes builds a fearless modern fragrance I could wear all day long, nothing extremely sweet or opaque that could not be worn during office hours.
Mod Noir shines with its elegant spirit until the dry down, which had me waiting for a musky finale, but the orange blossom paired with warm nectarine is what took me by surprise, a subtle fruity accord, clean and vivid to the very last minute.
