MIU MIU EAU DE PARFUM

Miu Miu eau de parfum

In August 2015 Prada’s subsidiary brand Miu Miu made its first appearance in the world of perfumes. Prada already has, of course, a broad collection of perfumes but this time the iconic Miuccia Prada, granddaughter of the founder of Prada, launched a perfume carrying her very personal style.

NOTES

An opaque light blue bottle, pleated like the signature leather bags of Miu Miu and a bright red plastic token on top of the lid, are the first lovely details and I am starting to believe this will be no ordinary perfume. Even the promo video, resembling to a James Bond intro, starring “Miu Muse” Stacy Martin, is a far cry from the usual concept of supermodels with stunning gowns and tons of sparkle, here we have a plain concept and a well playful mood.

Miu Miu eau de parfum is a creation with very few ingredient notes, really nicely blended together, with lily-of-the-valley being the protagonist. The first stage is overwhelmingly floral, not in a pungent and disturbing way, but with a fresh, pleasant and slightly thick texture, while I, personally expected it to show a more childish face. Rich tones of jasmine surface early, keeping the lily-of-the-valley note confined for a short while, followed by the citrusy sharpness of lemon and thin undertones of pure rose.

After 20-30 minutes, when normally each flower note would start to stand out, Miu Miu eau de parfum reveals a sole level of pepper scent. Once again the peppery feeling is not annoying neither flat, it simply creates a thin, modern sheet over the cool and airy lily-of-the-valley.

The final touch of Akigalawood® narrows down the floral temperament, this new synthetic material used in perfumery could be described as a lighter, more peppery edition of patchouli which adds a modern-oriental feel to the perfume. Musk is the last base note of this aroma, but luckily its usually sweet scent is not detectable.

All that ’70’s atmosphere surrounding this new perfume is amusing, and the fact that the brand’s debut is not an extravagant combination of fruits and flowers, is a delight. Yes, this is actually a perfume made for the girl next door, but it’s nothing common or conventional. It is a new form of avant-garde eau de parfum, girly and ladylike at the same time, the perfect way to start a happy Miu day!
