MILLER HARRIS-POIRIER D'UN SOIR

Poirier d'un soir

Strolling around the busy streets of Covent Garden, during my latest trip in London, I miraculously found myself in front of the Miller Harris flagship store. A cute, small window with a minimalistic flower decor and a thin air of pleasant scents led the way. That day I sniffed probably every scent and every little sample there was, but there was one perfume which beguiled my senses from the very first spritz! The one with the very lovely name Poirier d’un soir.

Poirier d'un soir  introduces  itself with a citrusy top layer of Italian bergamot  which gives a fruity boost to the perfume, evident all the way through. As its name suggests it is a pear tree, transpiring a sweet and calming honey-like scent, almost like a flower bed at dusk. I sensed a hint of discrete and modern romantic sweetness, delicately designed to be always à la mode.

The heart of this perfume is tropical and sugary in a soft and warm way due to the rum extract, which combined with the pear scent gives a semi-bitter touch. The exquisite turkish rose, sweet, spicy and always feminine takes the senses to the heart of the Orient. The fragile blooming rose gives out a powdery aspect, but despite the flowery contribution of this unique bloom, this is still a fruity-oriental accord.

We would expect the patchouli note to create a strong and thick basal layer, but we only enjoy its velvety and earthy edge. The coupling of birch tar and cedar wood gives a woody end delivered perfectly in a sensational way. It was a pleasant surprise that no musky notes which are popular, but can sometimes become dull, were present in this fragrant epilogue.

In Miller Harris they like to keep it simple when it comes to packaging, clear glass square-shaped bottles, with thin lines forming flowers allow you to see the true color of the perfume juice, which might sound modest, but let me tell you, if you are -like myself- a perfume collector, these bottles make a wonderful selection for your perfume shelf.

Tiny -lovely- detail:  The Miller Harris House has a really unique feature, accompanying every perfume with a color “Fragrance Mosaic”, which I always find fun and helpful. It is a visual aid to understanding the core of the perfume and a solid reminder that every single perfume can stimulate more than your olfactory sense.
